Delicate and wiry slow-spreader with dark, shiny stems. This graceful, fan-like pattern is unique among native ferns. The fronds arise from a creeping rootstock in clusters. Burgundy red fiddleheads appear in early spring. The roots are wiry and black, will colonizing in the right sites.

Care:

One of the oldest plants on the planet, ferns are unmatched in the perennial shade garden. Though they may appear delicate ferns are actually tough, adaptable plants but definitely prefer rich, humus-laden soil with consistent moisture. Deer don't seem to bother them.
