An improved cultivar of the native swamp milkweed - hassle-free perennial offering 3 months of vanilla-scented, rose flowers in 3 to 4 inch compact clusters followed by green, milkweed-like fruit with silky seeds. Host to may types of butterflies and used by the Monarch for egg laying. Its striking flowers are great in fresh bouquets and the pods compliment dried arrangements later in the year. Clump-forming and spreads by rhizomes but is not invasive.

Native to North America, swamp milkweed grows best in moist to wet soils, but will tolerate drier conditions. This species, unlike A. tuberosa, prefers humus-rich soil. A full day of sun is best. Once established, Swamp Milkweed requires little care. In spring, it will emerge a bit later than other perennials.
